Devorah Zealot Soodak, nee Deborah Ellen Soodak, aka Debbie Soodak, is doing something excruciatingly difficult for her: She is facing the details of her abuse. It is a brutally painful process, as brutally painful as the abuse itself, because she doesn't know how to remember; she can only relive.
She still can't use her own words. So she has to use the words of others. But they are extremely difficult to find because the people who perpetrate the abuses don't want them to be found.
The "Powers That Be" don't want you to see this stuff so they make it hard to find. I put the word "mental" in front to keep Google Scholar out of the search, not because I don't like Google Scholar, I use it a lot, but because I don't want the apologists perspective.
I excluded the word "isbn" from the search because I didn't want to see the Google Books Results in the search. Ibid for Google Books. When I want books, I use Google Books. I'm not looking for books!
I excluded the word "healthyplace.com" because I didn't want them popping up all over the result set saying how great ECT is. Ibid. I don't want results from perpetrators, collaborators, or apologists.
I excluded the word "psychogenic" because I consider this to be the equivalent of PaPa Ziggy Freud's Electra Complex. It is simply blame the victim abuse.
I excluded "substance abuse", "polysubstance abuse", and "alcohol abuse" because instead of results about patient abuse all I got were results about patients abusing drugs and alcohol. Ibid. I want to see results about patient abuse of psychiatric patients with epilepsy. Why should that be so difficult to do?
I know it exists because it happened to me and I've seen it happen to others. I had a roommate with a history of seizures. When the paramedics arrived chez bin for one of her many trips to a med ER they specifically asked: Does she have a history of seizures?
I said: Yes. Her psychiatrist gave me a dirty look. Then he lied and told them: No.
So, I had to construct this rather obnoxious Google search query to find what I know has to be out there, by hand:
